First Day Working - 11 Jan 2012

We got up and drove out to Grace in the little white car. Only one corner to take – 20 minutes. Ordered chaos on the road with 2 lanes sometimes, 4 lanes sometimes and lots of people walking and riding bikes down the side of the road. Fields of corn all along the road, dug and planted by hand. A man selling hand-made axes and hoes on the side of the road under a tree.
Phil and Sam worked on the Getting the doors on. Emanuel (one of the building team foreman) was with us to learn how to do doors and locks. The steel frames were all out of square and under size so each door was an effort to get on.
Sue spent the day unloading a container they had shipped from Canada, sorting clothes, meeting some of the children and doing a visitation / assessment of a family in need. I met a couple of older boys today. I told him I am from Australia and asked if he knew anything about Australia – His reply was “Hillsong”. They really love gospel music here. I am so glad we could get the keyboard here. It just has to wait to be cleared.
The other guys were unloading the container, that was completely full of cloths and books and building materials and Christmas presents.
We had dinner with all of the team, the power went out in a big storm, then drove back to Besuko in the pouring rain, which was quite an experience.
