We were asked to take delivery of a keyboard and bring it with us on the plane. 25 pounds....we said sure, no problem. Well the keyboard hadn't arrived by Thursday and we were leaving on Sunday. So the phone calls began. The keyboard was still in Sydney but fortunately we could pick one up in Brissie. We would need to bring a box big enough for 170 cm by 60 cm. The weight? They thought maybe 20 kg. My sister kindly drives me to get the keyboard.
Now for weighing time.....45 kg! The phone calls to Singapore Airlines began in earnest. It was going to cost about $2400 for the excess. We phone seeds of hope and get told to try to return it. Phil starts looking for local phone numbers for Singapore Airlines. He doesn't say anything much. We have to head north on other business. I look at him and say, "I don't think I can let this go." He hands me the piece of paper with two phone numbers on it and we head out of town.
The first number is an answering machine. The second I wait for 15 minutes and then get Chantelle. She says to send an email marked urgent. It will be sent to the Queensland manager. It usually takes two business days for a decision to be made. It is now Friday lunch. I send the email.....and wait. But only five minutes.
Lorna emails back we have an extra 10 kg each....30 kg in total! And yes we do sort our stuff to fit just within the weight....Keyboard successfully on its way to Jo'berg...complimentary thanks to Singapore Air.
